2010 Reunion
The first reunion of BLT 2/3 of 1979 was held in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona from October 21-23, 2010. Over 120 Marines, sailors, spouses, and friends attended this three-day event.
Highlights Included:
Welcome Reception. Arizona Governor Janice K. Brewer’s welcome letter was presented to General Boomer.
BLT Barbeque. The evening’s dinner and entertainment was held at the Executive Officer’s residence in Scottsdale. Bill and Jean Steed were gracious hosts to the animated and lively group.
Memorial Service. Forty Marines and/or sailors were honored for their service, bravery, and for the sacrifice they made to the 2/3, Marine Corps, and to this nation.
BLT Dinner:
General Boomer’s dinner remarks are provided.
Ms. Grace Tarawa Tran, who was born on the USS Tarawa during the deployment, expressed her gratitude to Marines and sailors of BLT 2/3 of 1979. Here are her remarks.
Captain Casey Brock, USMC, an infantry officer and Iraq War veteran, was the Guest Speaker. He offered his views and his first hand experiences of combat operations in Iraq in 2003 and 2005.
The CO, 2/3, Lieutenant Colonel John Evans, USMC, provided an update on the unit’s pre-deployment training for their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.
