Commanding Officer

The Commanding Officer of BLT 2/3 of 1979 was Lieutenant Colonel Walter E. Boomer. 

Walter E. Boomer.jpgGeneral Boomer's distinguished military career spanned 34 years, including as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1978 and 1979, Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines and BLT 2/3. In 1990 and 1991, as Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force, General Boomer led the Marine Corps’ forces in combat operations against Iraq and successfully liberated Kuwait during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.  He retired in 1994 in the rank of General after serving as the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps.

After retiring General Boomer moved into corporate life serving as Chairman of Board of Directors and CEO of Rogers Corporation.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of several corporations.
