Exercises

  1. MIDPAC PHIBLEX in the Hawaii/Kahoolawe operating area.
  2. LANDEX 2-79 in Subic Bay, off of Zambales, Republic of the Philippines.
  3. MAULEX 2-79 off of Botolon, Republic of the Philippines.
  4. LOADEX/LANDEX at White Beach, Buckner Bay, Okinawa, Japan.
  5. MAFLEX FORTRESS GALE in Subic Bay, off of Zambales, Republic of the Philippines.

Operations

  1. Provided direct support and assistance (food, shelter, and medical care) for four days to 442 Vietnamese refugees that were transferred to the USS Tarawa from the USS PEARY while anchored in Phattaya Bay, Thailand.  The refugees were debarked into United Nations’ custody at Phattaya Bay. 
    During this humanitarian operation, one refugee gave birth to a baby girl.  The mother was assisted by a BLT 2/3 corpsman, HM2 REED
  2. Conducted equator crossing ceremonies.
  3. Supported USS Tarawa and HMM-262 airlift and movement of a C-7 Caribou aircraft from its crash site in Malaysian Borneo to Kuching, Malaysian Air Force, a distance of approximately 100 NM.
