Port Visits

The Western Pacific is an economically and militarily significant part of the world and it is important that Marines and sailors understand the cultures of the countries which the United States is strategically aligned.

Port visits allow Marines and sailors to interact with other people and places, provide a unique opportunity to foster relationships, increase cooperation and mutual understanding, and promote a greater degree of respect between individuals and nations.

During the 1979 WESTPAC deployment of BLT 2/3, the following ports were visited:

Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines

Manila, Republic of the Philippines

Pattaya
Phattaya Bay, Thailand

Singapore, Republic of Singapore

Pusan, Korea
