Commanding Officer's Welcome
Aloha Marines and Sailors.
I am delighted that BLT 2/3 of 1979 is holding another reunion, this year in Las Vegas. Like our first get-together, our 2011 reunion is intended to rekindle the esprit de corps and camaraderie of the past when we enjoyed great experiences and friendships that launched us into the future.
The general framework for the three-day reunion consists of a Welcome Reception on the first night at the reunion hotel, The Orleans Hotel and Casino. On day two, daytime activities throughout the Las Vegas area include casinos, shows, tours, bowling, golf, shopping, etc. That evening there will be a BLT Barbeque at the local Marine Corps League’s Leatherneck Club, approximately two miles from the reunion hotel. This event will be concluded in time for attendees to attend the evening shows at the reunion hotel or at other venues in Las Vegas. The third day will be highlighted by a Memorial Service to honor those BLT 2/3 Marines and sailors who have passed away, and an evening BLT Dinner at reunion hotel.
I remain exceptionally proud of the accomplishments of BLT 2/3 of 1979. Moreover, I am very proud of the lifetime accomplishments of each member of our extremely well-trained, highly proficient, experienced, combat-ready BLT. It was indeed a highlight of my Marine Corps career to be your Commanding Officer. Now I am pleased that the second reunion of our remarkable BLT is occurring and, like the other missions we were assigned, am confident that it will be a complete success.
Sandi and I look forward to meeting each of you again.
